Interstate Highway Bridge Detail Laser Scanning

Quality. The LJA project survey team excels not only at innovation and quality, but also at employing technology that reveals current conditions. Armed with valuable field data for this interstate project, we carefully evaluated the results from our 3D modeling and provided a clear roadmap for repair of the 1.4-mile section of road.

LJA was part of a project team hired to conceptualize a repair scheme by performing 3D design modeling and structural analysis of a 1.4-mile section of interstate highway. Using a Leica high-definition terrestrial laser scanner, LJA field crews scanned the underneath structural supports of 26 elevated main lane bridge units and 16 elevated collector ramp bridge units. The resulting 3D model of each bridge unit depicted structural beam elements with stiffener plates, connections, decking, and support columns. Unified point clouds were delivered along with a digital model and 3D bridge unit models in MicroStation format for use in the bridge analysis and ultimate repair design solutions.
